Aaron's Backstage Pass: Hairball

This past weekend, I went to the McLeod County Fair to see Hairball. Hairball is one of my favorite local bands and I have seen them many times.

They play 80’s music and have a very unique and entertaining show. Why is it unique? They have a few different lead singers and they dress up like the popular musicians that sing the song they are singing.  For example, “Rock Star Bob” will dress up like Gene Simmons when they play songs by KISS.

He looks exactly like Gene with his face paint and signature axe guitar.  While he is on stage, Kris Voxx, another lead singer is changing into his Dee Snider costume. They do this for their entire show, so you never know what song they are going to play next.  I think this is great, because it’s never the same show twice.

There are six members that make up Hairball.  There are three lead singers, Rock Star Bob, Kris Voxx,  and Joe Dandy.  In my opinion they are all great singers and they sound exactly like the singers they are performing as.   Some of the musicians they perform as are, David Lee Roth, Gene Simmons, Axel Rose, Alice Cooper, Steven Tyler and Brian Johnson, just to name a few.

Happy is the lead guitar player and he is full of energy and is always moving and jumping around on the stage.  He is an amazing and talented guitar player and an entertainer. I know that a lot of the people that come to see Hairball play want to see him.  Before the show, a lot of people where talking about how fun it is to watch him, because you never know what he is going to do next.

Freaky is the bass player and he is also very talented. You can tell that he enjoys playing in front of people and he really enjoys the music he plays. He is also constantly on the move interacting with fans and the other members of the band.

Hairball’s drummer is Colt Python. I don’t really know much about him or really have seen him backstage before a show, but he is an amazing drummer. It is a lot of fun watching him, because during the whole show, all you see is his arms flying and head moving and it doesn’t stop.  I don’t know where he gets all of his energy.

Hairball has a huge following and they play a lot of shows each week.  One of their big shows coming up is going to be at the Minnesota State Fair on August 27th and 28th. Hairball’s show at the McLeod Country Fair was great and was one of the best ones that I have been to.  There were a ton of people and the people were really into the show. Hairball opened with KISS and the crowd went crazy.

They played for about two hours without taking a break. The whole band was full of energy and you could tell that they were having a great time playing and interacting with their fans.  They played songs by artists like Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Prince, and AC/DC.

I would highly recommend that you go out and see a Hairball show. It’s a very entertaining and fun experience. I see tons of concerts every year and Hairball is one band that I try and see as often as I can.  I can’t wait to see them again.
