New Recreation Area Provides Play Space, Protects Water

A new public recreation area is giving kids a place to play, and protecting the water in nearby lakes and Minnehaha Creek.

Friday, the El Colegio Charter School held a ribbon cutting for the project that will put in a soccer field, basketball court, garden and patio in place of a vacant parking lot.

The project also cleans up contaminated soil found in the area that was running into the water.

Now the space will prevent runoff and open up new space for students.

El Colegio funded the project through grants from Hennepin County.
