Blueberry Crop is Bright Spot in Tough Season

Growers say the blueberry crop in Wisconsin is a bright spot in an otherwise tough growing season.

While cherries and corn crops suffered in drought conditions, blueberries did well. Moni Jarvis at Blueberry Haven in Bear Creek says customers are walking away with buckets full of berries. She says the heat is a ripening tool for the berries. The warm weather has sealed in the juiciness of the fruit.

Blueberry Haven has an irrigation system, but Jarvis says there's nothing like a steady rain to keep the crop going strong. She tells WLUK-TV that less rain this year will affect next year's crop.

Blueberry picking season continues through August.
