Rochester Schools Might Lower Kindergarten Age
About half of Minnesota's school districts allow some 4-year-olds to enroll in kindergarten. Rochester Public Schools might be the next to change their policy to allow it.
Under current state law, unless local school district policy says otherwise, students enter kindergarten if they turn 5 years old by Sept. 1.
The Rochester School Board will vote Tuesday on a proposal to allow 4-year-olds to enroll if they pass a battery of tests to make sure they're academically and socially ready.
