Darts no Match for Armed Robber in Robbinsdale

In Robbinsdale early Sunday, darts were no match for a gun.  But in the end, that gun was no match for several officers, K-9s, and a helicopter.

It all began at 1:30 a.m..  That's when Robbinsdale officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a home in the 3000 block of Zenith Avenue North.

"Three victims were playing darts in a detached garage with the garage door open when they were confronted by a suspect pointing a sawed-off rifle at them," said a Robbinsdale Police spokesperson.  "The suspect demanded money and took several electronic items before fleeing the scene."

Responding officers spotted a person they believed responsible.  The suspect was on a bicycle and lost officers in an alley.

Robbinsdale officers along with officers from neighboring communities circled the area.

"K-9 officers and a helicopter were also used to locate the suspect, who was eventually found hiding inside of a vehicle behind a residence just a few houses away from where the robbery took place," said the spokesperson.

The spokesperson said officers found the rifle as well as the items taken in the robbery.

On Monday, the suspect was in the Hennepin County Jail awaiting charges.
