Night to Unite Promotes Community Spirit, Emergency Preparedness

Community members are encouraged to spend time with neighbors and commit to fighting crime at the annual Night to Unite.  

Tuesday, Aug. 7, residents can attend local block parties with police officers, firefighters, and community leaders. The purpose is to boost emergency preparedness and crime prevention awareness.

Night to Unite is hosted by the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association along with various communities throughout the state.

Last year, neighborhoods from more than 15,000 communities in all 50 states participated in crime prevention block parties, totally about 37 million people.

Also, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is using cartoon characters Flat Stanley and Flat Stella to teach kids about the importance of emergency preparedness this year. Kids can print Flat Stanely and Flat Stella characters at ready.gov/flatstanley.
