Man Charged in South Mpls. Fatal Shooting

A Minneapolis man has been charged in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in south Minneapolis last month.

Darrell Mandall Nickerson, Sr., 33, is charged with murder in the death of Jamary Hearn, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office says.

Nickerson was arrested in Chicago Wednesday night. He's also charged with attempted second-degree murder in the non-fatal shooting of Hearn's father.

According to the criminal complaint, Hearn's father was in the kitchen of his house at 1511 E. 38th St. around 10:30 a.m. on July 18 when he heard a knock on the window. Jamary Hearn let two men into the house and shortly after that, both men pulled out handguns. Nickerson said, "Give me all your money." Hearn tried to wrestle the gun away from Nickerson, but fell to the floor. Then, Nickerson and the other man began shooting, hitting Hearn and his father.

Hearn's father and two other witnesses who ran from the house recognized Nickerson as a friend of another person were later able to pick him out of a photo lineup, the complaint says.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says it has started the process to return Nickerson to Minneapolis.
