Wis. DNR Takes 3K Apps for Wolf Hunt in 1 Day

Wisconsin wildlife officials say they received nearly 3,000 applications to participate in this fall's wolf hunt on the first day they started taking requests.

The hunt is scheduled to begin Oct. 15 and run through the end of February. The state Department of Natural Resources plans to issue 2,010 permits through a lottery. Any applicants not selected would earn a preference point that improves their chances in next year's drawing.

The agency began taking lottery applications on Wednesday. Department officials say they received 3,277 applications.

The application period ends Aug. 31.
