Bicycle Coalition Pushes for Protected Bike Lanes on Washington Ave.

Bikers want extra space added to a busy Minneapolis road.

Wednesday, the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition delivered hundreds of letters to the city council, Mayor R.T. Rybak, and Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin.

The letters are pushing the city and county to install protected bike lanes on Washington Avenue. Hennepin County is already planning to re-do five block of Washington Avenue over the next year and a half.

A protected bike lane is one that’s physically separated from car and pedestrian traffic.
