Small Plane Crashes in Dakota Co. Cornfield

A pilot of a small plane escaped with minor injuries after crashing in Dakota County.

According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, 61-year-old Benny Svien of Northfield was flying back to his home when he attempted to land on a runway located on his property.

As he tried to land, he experienced mechanical problems with the plane's rudder at about 1700 feet. The plane crashed into a cornfield, and caught on fire.

Svien was able to get out of the plane. His only injuries were minor cuts to his neck.

The plane was destroyed in the crash.
