Political In-Fighting in Isanti County

There's a political feud of he said/she said in Isanti County.

Commissioner Alan Duff is raising what he calls a big issue in the rural community with only five commissioners. He points to a state audit as proof.

Commissioner Duff questions the transparency of other county commissioners and alleges financial mismanagement. In particular, Duff questions the amount of per diems - reimbursements to county commissioners for attending meetings in the county and outside the county.

The expenses are supposed to be filed every month.  For every meeting attended in Isanti, a commissioner is paid back $60. For every one outside the county $75.

Per diems are paid above and beyond a commissioner's yearly salary of $26,000.

In Commissioner Susan Morris' case, she claimed nearly $7,400 in per diems last year.  Those along with other benefits, nearly doubled her salary.

She admits to making a mistake once and double-billing the county in 2010.  She calls the latest accusations political posturing.

While the State Auditor didn't find any glaring misconduct, she says if you do, call her office.  It's the law.
