American Red Cross: Blood Supply at Lowest in 15 Years

The American Red Cross says its blood supply is at its lowest in 15 years.
Summer is typically slower for donations, and August is the slowest month. This year is tough because the Red Cross says severe weather and power outages canceled many blood drives. Plus, regular donors also stayed home because of some hot days.
Last month, the organization announced an urgent push to get more Minnesotans to donate blood after its supply reached dangerously low levels.
It’s so severe, hospitals might cancel elective surgeries.
