Minn. Democrats Focus on Effort to Cover More Uninsured Kids

The House Democratic leader and a top adviser to Gov. Mark Dayton say Minnesota will start implementing a 2009 state law aimed at covering more uninsured children.

House Minority Leader Paul Thissen and Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson will announce the law's implementation at a Capitol news conference on Thursday, after the state got federal permission to go ahead.

The law, originally sponsored by Thissen, would remove a four-month waiting period for MinnesotaCare for qualifying families, among other changes.

They are talking about children's health insurance coverage after the state's ranking for children's coverage fell in a report released this week.
