Minnesotan Named to Working Mother Magazine's 'Best of Congress'
'Working Mother' just named the 30 members of Congress it believes are the best when it comes to issues facing the magazine's readers. A Republican from Minnesota and two Democrats from Wisconsin made the list.
Minnesota 3rd District Congressman Erik Paulsen, Wisconsin 2nd District Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, and Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl were highlighted.
The magazine cited Rep. Paulsen's work on education, through legislation and within his own office.
"Working father Paulsen understands the importance of work life balance, so he gives employees caring for sick kids or parents time off with pay and occasionally allows his staffers to work from home if needed," said the article's writer. "Members of the congressman's staff are also encouraged to continue their education while they work, and he offers flexible scheduling to make sure they can get to class and study."
In a post on his Facebook page, Rep. Paulsen described the recognition as "a true honor."
The article's authors said they chose Rep. Baldwin because "she has been a leading advocate for universal health care and a supporter of civil rights."
Sen. Herb Kohl's work on education helped him make the list. The article's authors cited Kohl's Fast Track to College Act, saying it was authored "in hopes of reducing high school dropout rates and improving access to college for low-income students."
