State Patrol Chopper Spots Brooklyn Park Suspects' Body Heat

The aircraft is a State Patrol helicopter and the scene is Brooklyn Park.  But, at least to this writer, it was reminiscent of video from a Predator Drone flying over Afghanistan.

On Thursday, the Brooklyn Park Police Department asked the State Patrol to help search for people suspected of breaking into a strip mall.

The State Patrol sent "Trooper 8," a helicopter equipped with a FLIR camera capable of detecting heat.  Using the camera, the pilots spotted something warm in an air vent on the roof.

"Pilots in Trooper 8 located two heat sources, but were unable to determine if they were the suspects," said a State Patrol spokesperson.

They watched for ten minutes.  Then, as officers were about to climb up to check it out, the pilots spotted three people climbing out of the vent.

"They walked to the north side of the roof, where they surrendered to officers," said the spokesperson.
