Heat, Storms, Flooding Cause Disease Risks at Beaches
Record heat, strong storms, and flooding could be causing some disease risks at beaches.
Doctors say storm water runoff can contaminate lake water. The Environmental Protection Agency says contaminated water makes more than 3 million people sick every year. Children are especially at risk because they tend to swallow water when they’re swimming.
Cutting your risk of getting sick is simple – shower after swimming.
Two Hennepin County beaches and a Lakeville beach closed recently because of high levels E. coli.
