Vikings Stadium Authority Eyes Land Near Stadium Site

The Vikings Stadium Authority made some of its first key decisions on the new stadium Friday.

The authority gave preliminary approval to a $750,000 contract for environmental review of the site. They also gave the go-ahead to authority CEO Ted Mondale to begin negotiating for millions of dollars in land acquisitions around the stadium site in Minneapolis.

"We've identified 11 parcels of land that may be used in the bigger footprint, as we talked about in the legislation," Mondale said. "So what's happened is the board has given the staff authority to go out and try to negotiate those parcels."

The Vikings are expected to start playing in the new stadium for the 2016 stadium.
