Elk River Police Offer Reward in Connection With Vandalism Spree
Elk River police are asking for the public's help after receiving more than two dozen vandalism reports over a week and a half.
Capt. Bob Kluntz says the department has received approximately 30 vandalism reports since June 30, with most occurring last week.
The suspects ripped mailboxes from the ground, punctured the sides of above-ground swimming pools and cut the floor out of backyard trampolines. In other incidents, the suspects drove across lawns, damaging sprinkler systems, and shot windows out of cars, apparently with a BB gun.
Most of the incidents have occurred on the east side of town. All have been reported between late evening and early morning.
Kluntz said it is common for police to see a spike in this type of activity over the summer months, and young people out past curfew may be behind the crimes.
Still, police are taking the vandalism seriously. They are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible; anyone with information is asked to contact the police department at 763-635-1200.
