Metro Man, Light Rail Lady Teach Mpls Students about Public Transportation

Beginning this fall, thousands of Minneapolis High School students will board city buses and light rail trains instead of school buses to get to class.

Only five of Minneapolis’ seven public high schools – Edison, Henry, North, Washburn, and Roosevelt – will route their students to Metro Transit this fall. South and Southwest High Schools will wait unit the fall of 2013.

The school district says kids will get free passes and be able to board any time they want. But some people in the community don’t like the plan.

To help teach Minneapolis students how to ride the city bus, two new superheroes will be promoting bus ride etiquette and safety – Metro Man and Light Rail Lady. The superheroes will be characters in a new film aimed and providing the information for young people.

The Minneapolis Youth Congress starts shooting the video Friday.
