VIDEO: Teens Serving the Douglas Community
Over 300 high school students and adults from around the United States are in Douglas County doing missionary work this week.
West Central Minnesota Community Action co-sponsored Group Cares Camp to make needed repairs on 47 homes in the Douglas County area.
Homeowner eligibility was based on need and the level of work to be done on the home, according to Heather Thormodson, Retired Senior Volunteer Program Director.
“The selection criteria for work sites were senior citizens, U.S. veterans, people with special needs and single parent homes; all under the umbrella of folks that are in poverty,” she said.
The campers are part of church youth groups from across the nation
"It's really amazing how much we have an impact in these small towns in Minnesota, because back at home sometimes we take things for granted," said mission worker Lucy Lincoln.
The mission workers are staying at Brandon High School while they are in town.
