Beloit Bans Open Burning, Consumer Fireworks Use

Hot, dry weather has prompted the City of Beloit to ban consumer fireworks use. And other Wisconsin cities are dealing with the increased fire danger.

Beloit Fire Chief Bradley Liggett banned all open burning and consumer fireworks use Tuesday. The ban includes outdoor fireplaces and pits, sparklers and novelty fireworks but does not bar residents from using grills for cooking.

City of Fond du Lac Fire Chief Peter O'Leary tells The Reporter newspaper that a long stretch of dry, hot weather could result in a burning ban or postponement or cancellation of the public fireworks display at Lakeside Park.

WMTV-TV reports Saturday's Fire on the River fireworks display in Prairie du Sac is canceled.

The Madison Fire Department is asking residents to reconsider setting off fireworks at home this year.
