Wis. DNR to Hold Hearing on Sand Mine Air Permit

People will get a chance to sound off on whether state environmental officials should grant an air permit to a company looking to open a sand mine in western Wisconsin.

U.S. Silica Company is seeking a Department of Natural Resources permit for an industrial sand mine and processing plant in Sparta. The DNR has made a preliminary determination that the company's application meets state and federal air pollution control requirements and the agency should approve the permit.

The DNR still plans to hold a public hearing on the matter Tuesday afternoon at City Hall in Sparta. The agency will accept written comments on the application through June 28 as well.
