Metro School District Looks to New Buses for Big Savings

A local school district is going green - and saving green.

The Eastern Carver County School District has started replacing its old diesel-run school buses with ones that use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).  This year alone they have saved more than $60,000 in fuel costs. The money will go back into the district's education budget.

Eighteen of the district's 102 buses use alternative fuel; they are adding 13 more this summer.

The catch: The buses are each about $8,000 more than one that runs on diesel, but in Carver County they say the payoff is worth it.
