Gadhafi Death Hits Home for Some Minnesotans

The death of Moammar Gadhafi is welcome news throughout many parts of the world,  For decades he used oil revenues from Libya to funnel to terrorist groups both in his country and elsewhere.

In Minnesota, Rob Berrell knows too well the devastating consequences of Gadhafi's actions.  His 20-year old brother, Steve Berrell, was among 35 Syracuse University students killed when Gadhafi ordered the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

The work of Virgil Wiebe could also be impacted by the death of Gadhafi. Wiebe, a University of St. Thomas law professor, works with an organization called the "Mines Advisory Group" (MAG).  MAG works in war-torn nations helping to eliminate unexploded land mines and munitions left behind after conflicts like the one in Libya.

MAG has workers in Libya now helping to protect civilians from these munitions. Wiebe hopes they'll be able to expand their work now that Gadhafi is dead. To learn more about MAG's work, we've established a link to their website under our "Links" tab.
