Local businesses adjusting to smoking ban

It's been a week since the start of the statewide smoking ban. Though it's too soon to tell how the ban has affected businesses, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS checked in with those who have been obeying a smoking ban for longer.

In Minneapolis, where the ban has been in place for two years, many bars have adjusted.

At Burrito Loco, a patio installed for smokers has attracted business.

In Robbinsdale, owners of Break-Away Bar and Grill admitted that they had a tough time when they lost smokers. Recently, they built a patio for smoking customers, but hope that the statewide ban will put everyone on an even playing field. Kathy Gustafson, the owner of bar said they lost about 30 percent of their sales when smoking was banned July 31.

"I think it's going to take a while," said Gustafson. "People will temporarily stop going out, but I think they'll come around."
