HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) - The State Patrol was investigating on Friday the death of a motorcyclist who was killed after he collided with a Dakota County Sheriff's Office squad car.

The sheriff's office said the deputies were responding to a domestic disturbance call in Farmington at 7:16 p.m. Thursday when their car hit the motorcycle.

The collision happened at state Highway 3 and 200th Street. Bill J. Wallace, 58, of Farmington, later died from his injuries.

Two deputies were in the vehicle at the time. Dakota County Chief Deputy David Bellows said Friday they had been put on administrative leave, which was standard procedure.

The State Patrol said it appeared both vehicles were going south on Highway 3 when the squad car made a left turn from the right lane. The motorcycle, which was in the left lane, then hit the left front of the squad car.

Deputy Joshua Williams, 29, of Hastings, was driving. The sheriff's office said he joined the department in February 2005 and was in the final phase of his field training.

Deputy Dan Michener, 33, the training officer, was also in the car. He was a nine-year veteran of the department.

State Patrol spokesman Nathan Bowie said the investigation was ongoing and he could not comment on how fast the vehicles were traveling or if the emergency lights on the squad car had been turned on.
