| INTERNET INSITE: Interactive wedding directions |
| |
Do you have an interesting Web site you'd like to see featured on Internet InSITE? Email Web Manager Justin Piehowski, jpiehowski@kstp.com. Watch Internet InSITE each weekday morning at 5:30 and 6:30 on 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS MORNING.
SITE: http://www.weddingmapper.com
When my wife and I got married last year, our groom's dinner was on Grand Ave. in St. Paul, the church was in south Minneapolis and the reception was in downtown Minneapolis.
It became quite the tangled web of directions for our guests, especially the out-of-towners.
But now, there is a slick, interactive new web site that can make getting from one place to another at weddings much easier.
It's called the WeddingMapper and it allows you to easily plot out all the important geographic points for your wedding celebration on one map. Guests can print out all the directions they need on one Web site.
You simply enter the addresses of important places such as your grooms dinner, you reception, and your ceremony. The site inserts colorful icons at those locations for you. You'll also want to mark the airport and the hotels for out-of-towners.
Once you complete the page, you will be given a specific link--email this link to your guests. With a few small clicks, guests can print directions between any two points on the map, such as the airport to the hotel or the ceremony to the reception.
On the left hand side of the map, you can enter important information, such as Internet links to gift registries and other details you want your guests to know about. Guests can also sign up for alert emails, so they will be notified when you update the map.
You can pay $10 to the site to get rid of the ads on the page, otherwise, it's absolutely free.
Special thanks to Allison and Nick, two of my friends from the newsroom, who allowed me to show their wedding map in the on-air version of this story. Their big day is Sept. 29. You can watch their story by pressing play on the right.
