SAWKAR: The Flu Shot Welcome

There are some great benefit to getting off work at noon. There are also some things that aren't so great. One of those times was on Wednesday. I picked up my kids at school and they were all smiles. They are always so upbeat and positive when I see them and we try to decide where to go for our afterschool snack. Which awesome St. Paul bakery will we go to? On this day, though, I had to break some bad news to my sweeties.

I hate that moment of apprehension as I know their smiles will soon be turned to tears. I carefully told them they were going to get a flu shot after their snack and that's when I saw the tears. I had my words of calming all ready but there were still sad faces in the back of my minivan. Even after they got a mouthful of cookies, there was clear fear in their eyes.

In the end, the shots were quick and easy and my children even laughed with relief when it was over. Another flu shot session in the books...that is until the H1N1 vaccine comes out and mom has to break the news again. The joys of motherhood!
