SAWKAR: Enjoying Gopher Football

It sounds so stupid but there are things I never thought of when it comes to enjoying a new outdoor stadium like TCF Stadium. I am so conditioned to the sterile and controlled environment of the Metrodome that some of us have forgotten the sounds and sights that come with the open air.

I was surprised to hear the crowd so well and hear the announcers when I was standing right outside the stadium. I know some neighbors were troubled by that but for those of us who were just milling around outside TCF Stadium, it was a wonderful sound. My husband and I tried to get some scalped tickets to the game. Ticket brokers actually tried to get me to pay $250 for one upper deck ticket. I don't think so.

My husband and I shrugged it off and zipped over to Sally's and enjoyed the open air, hearing the stadium not far away and watching the game on televisions outside. Tom Hauser met us there after covering President Obama's visit. We had a great time hanging with the college kids and experiencing all of the excitement. It truly felt like an energized college campus.

It just so happens some good friends who have season tickets invited us to next week's game. We look forward to getting inside this time. I can't even imagine how much fun that is going to be!
