MCLEAN: Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I don't know what the Twins were thinking. They asked me and Bill Lunn to sing "Take me out to the Ball Game" during the 7th inning stretch. Maybe they figured that since we can talk alright we should be decent singers too. Well, Bill is but I'm not. I can hardly carry a tune. But who could pass up an opportunity to sing at the Twins game? It's not the "Star Spangled Banner," it's just a fun little tune.

In the weeks leading up to the game I practiced and psyched myself up. But when we walked to the staging area I started to get nervous. Then they told us we could have family and friends who came along too sing with us. That helped. So when it was finally time to sing we had so many people you could hardly hear me. The Metrodome crowd was singing along too and I ended up blending in pretty well.

I've been going to the dome, watching the Twins and singing that song since Kirby Puckett was still playing. Getting the opportunity to sing over the loud speaker and be on the big screen was amazing. With a good voice or bad, it's all about root, root, rooting for the home team- Go Twins!
