St. Charles Man Gets Jail for Killing Cat

WINONA, Minn. (AP) - A St. Charles man has been sentenced to 21 days in jail and four years probation for killed a young girl's cat with a bow and arrow.

Twenty-four-year-old Ajalon Thomas Corcoran was earlier convicted of felony mistreatment of animals. Corcoran says the cat was eating birds and messing in his garden. Defense attorney J.P. Plachecki says Corcoran didn't know the cat was someone's pet.

Plachecki says he plans to appeal the conviction because the statute requires prosecutors prove Corcoran knew the cat was a pet for him to be guilty of a felony.

A judge also ordered Corcoran to pay $193 in restitution to the family that owned the cat.
