MCLEAN: Exploring Minnesota

This cool summer is providing plenty of opportunity for outdoor adventure. Usually I'd be complaining about below normal summer temperatures, but this year I'm taking advantage instead. It's tough to run when it's 90 degrees with 95 percent humidity. That's not a problem now. I ran my first half marathon at the end of May and not only did I survive, it was actually fun. So, with the cool summer weather sticking around into July, I'm still running, just not quite so far. But the Twin Cities marathon is coming up so I'll have to get ready for that, or just part of it.

The other new summer adventure is biking. I haven't had a bike since I was a kid. But two weeks ago I decided it was time to get back into it. Along with the bike, I bought a lock, so this bike doesn't disappear the same why my old bike did when I was 15. So far so good. The first ride around the lakes in Minneapolis went so well I decided I was ready for a big trip. This past weekend I went down to Cannon Falls where a beautiful trail takes you all the way to Red Wing. Getting to Red Wing was fun. Getting back to Cannon Falls after already putting in two hours on the bike was more of a challenge. Maybe next weekend I'll pick a shorter rout. Either way I figure I have to take advantage of summer activities because skiing season could be here soon.
