SAWKAR: Glimpses of the Weekend

It started out chilly and stayed that way until Sunday but I had a great weekend and I hope you did, too! We started out Friday evening cheering my son on at his baseball game. I bundles up like I would for a football game but still enjoyed summer's favorite sport.

On Saturday morning, I woke up early to be a part of the CRY event. It stands for Children's Rights and You. It is an organization that helps children in India. They held a walk and run around Como Lake. It was a wonderful event and I was happy to hand out the awards.

Soon after, we caught the Rondo Days parade in St. Paul. It is a celebration of the old Rondo neighborhood that was bulldozed to make way for 94. I absolutely love the parade because of the drill teams that take part. There is nothing like hearing that beat and watching the young girls and boys march and dance in time. I love it.

We spent Saturday evening with a familiar face. Many of you know Angela Davis who used to work here at 5. You would think that being competitors would get in the way of a friendship but it doesn't. We enjoyed time at her home and our kids got along so well. It was fun to see her. She and her husband are truly delightful and funny people.

On Sunday, my husband and I hopped on our bikes and joined a couple of our friends on their bikes and headed to the movie theater to see Public Enemies with Johnny Depp. It was a fantastic movie. I highly recommend it. Depp was fabulous! We also enjoyed a nice meal at the Blue Door Pub. It is a great neighborhood burger joint at Selby and Fairview in St. Paul. There is a line to get in but it is well worth it.

Sorry to see the weekend come to an end so soon but it sure was a nice one!
