Twenty-year-old Adnan Farah grew up in America surrounded by his Somali culture and says his search for identity and belonging made him a perfect target for ISIS recruiters. He is one of nine Somali-American teenagers in the Twin Cities convicted of terrorism charges.
Up until now, what we've known about the Minnesota terror case has been what we've heard in court and from government lawyers. Now, we're hearing Farah's side of the story in this worldwide exclusive interview.
In 2014, Farah and his co-defendants conspired to travel to Syria to fight alongside ISIS. On a Sunday morning in April 2015, FBI agents stormed into Farah's bedroom and arrested him on terrorism charges. He took a plea deal in April 2016. He will be sentenced on November 15th.
Farah grew up in the iconic Cedar-Riverside towers before his family eventually moved to south Minneapolis. Farrah attended South High School, graduating in 2014.
Farah says he became radicalized in high school after watching various terrorist recruiting videos on social media. He admits to being in a ''vulnerable state'' when he saw ISIS' message of companionship and brotherhood.
